FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The PSA affirms our full support for the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) that will depart from Tunis today. We salute and pray for the brave civil society activists that have made this commitment to Break the Siege and End the Starvation in Gaza through peaceful non-violent means and despite the drone attacks and cruel machinations of the Israeli regime.
Unfortunately, our comrade and young leader Nurain Saloojee will not be able to join the South African delegation on the boats today as she has taken ill. As disciplined solidarity activist we respect the decision of the GSF medical team that health and safety come first and wish Nurain a speedy and full recovery. We are confident that Nurain will be fully active once she has recovered as she reaffirms in her note:
Assalamu Alaikum everyone,
With a heavy heart, I share that I’ve had to step back from sailing with the Global Sumud Flotilla. For just over 48 hours I have been unwell and unable to get out of bed. After medical advice and consultation, I have been officially removed from the boat list. As much as my heart aches, I must accept that boarding in this condition would endanger not only myself but also those around me. Allah knows best, and His plan is always greater than ours. Although I cannot physically be on the boat, I remain committed to this cause. I promise to do whatever is necessary to keep up the pressure, to amplify the voices of the oppressed, and to
continue standing in solidarity in every way I can. This journey is bigger than one person, and I pray that humanitarian aid will get to the shores
of Gaza.
Yours in solidarity
Nurain Saloojee
South African delegate GSF
As the delegates from over forty countries set sail, we call on one and all to keep our eyes on the suffering people of Gaza and Occupied Palestine. In this regard we are calling for those who can to observe a day of fasting and prayer on Thursday 11 September 2025, for the success of the Global Sumud Flotilla and for the oppressed people across the globe.
Wherever we can, let us sincerely supplicate for an end to the genocide and for justice and accountability. Let us use our voices and platforms to make this appeal for our silence will signal complicity.
