The Palestine Solidarity Alliance hosted its 13th Annual Walk For Freedom on 25 September 2022, at Rose Avenue Park, Lenasia.
The event served as an awareness campaign that highlighted the Palestinian struggle and amplifies the fight for a free Palestine. The event also served as a platform for freedom-loving people to take a stand against injustice across the world and advocate for the causes they are passionate about – be it workers’ rights, climate justice, or youth-related issues.
This year, we partnered with important Lenasian Community Organisations to host the Walk For Freedom. Saaberie Chishty Society, Pulsate, and Fountain of Inspiration were key organisations whose heroic service during the Covid-19 pandemic prevented great suffering and calamity.
The Walk For Freedom was also host to a range of pop-ups, including food stalls, fashionwear, toys, and artisinal Palestinian products.
Recent months have been witness to great catastrophes in the world and particularly in Palestine. While the global community is focused on the carnage in Ukraine, it and the United Nations have turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the continuing catastrophe in Palestine.
While South Africans will be celebrating Heritage Day on September 24, the Palestine Solidarity Alliance will be holding its annual ‘Palestine Walk for Freedom’ on Sunday, September 25. The event aims to create awareness and stir consciences about the horrendous scourge of apartheid being perpetrated on the people of Palestine.
The walk is expected to start early in the morning and to follow a well- patrolled route of approximately 7,5km. Adequate watering points and marshals will be stationed at strategic points and ambulances will follow the route. Good care of the elderly and the children will be ensured.
The organisers are expecting to host international and national guests who will highlight the plight of the defenceless Palestinians under the yoke of the brutal Zionist regime. Attention is also expected to be focused on injustices in other parts of the world, during the very thought-provoking public discussions that will take place after the walk.
There will also be food stalls and tables selling Palestinian paraphernalia.
Invitations have been extended to individuals and to community organisations which serve the local community so selflessly. The event promises to be a truly community-oriented event.
Tickets are on sale for R35 each via Quicket. Proceeds aid our efforts to mobilise resources, lobby government, and directly support liberation efforts in Palestine.
