    PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA – The Palestine Solidarity Alliance (PSA), alongside a coalition of activists, family, and friends, today accorded Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng a heroine’s welcome upon her return to the land of her birth. Dr. Mofokeng, a distinguished South African medical doctor, has just concluded her impactful tenure as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health—a role to which she was appointed by the UN Human Rights Council in July 2020.

    PSA STATEMENT ON THE XENOPHOBIC MOBILISATION BY OPERATION DUDULA, MARCH TO MARCH AND THEIR SUPPORTERS

    15 June 2026: The Palestinian Solidarity Alliance condemns, in the strongest terms, the growing xenophobic rhetoric and mobilisation being promoted by Operation Dudula, March to March, and those political actors who have chosen to lend legitimacy to these dangerous campaigns.

    We say this plainly: migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and foreign nationals are not the enemy of South Africa.

    The enemy is not the mother from Zimbabwe trying to feed her children. It is not the young man from Malawi looking for work. It is not the Mozambican worker, the Congolese trader, the Somali shopkeeper, the Pakistani shop owner, the Bangladeshi worker, the Nigerian student, the Ethiopian refugee, or any undocumented person living in fear while trying to survive.

    To say this was a surprise or a eureka moment would be an understatement. The South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD)—an affiliate member of the South African Zionist Federation, and an organisation sometimes described as a civil society or human rights body—has supposedly joined, or rejoined, the community of conscience. It appears that the SAJBD has broken its oath of silence by condemning human rights violations committed by the Israeli regime against other human beings.

  • SA activists call for ban on Coal exports from Richards Bay to genocidal Israel

    BDS movement supported by PSA and other concerned activists including Pastor Nigel Branken held protests at Richards Bay harbour terminal on 16 My 2026 and also launched petitions, urging the government to stop exports to Israel, claiming that South African coal is “fuelling the genocide” in Palestine.

    South Africa exported 1.8-million tons of coal to Israel in 2025.

  • SIX SOUTH AFRICANS JOIN THE GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILLA TO GAZA AS WORLD MARKS 78 YEARS SINCE THE NAKBA

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 14 MAY 2026

    TÜRKIYE – Six members of the Global Sumud South Africa Delegation is part of the Global Sumud Flotilla as it regroups in Türkiye with more than 50 boats from multiple ports preparing to push toward Gaza in what has become the largest civilian maritime mission in history. The delegation comprises Qutb Hendricks, Yusuf Rahman, Mogamed Faeek Afriedien, Ambassador Faizel Moosa, Hajar Ahjum, Kagiso Mathee, and Ebrahim Peters.

    Their presence on the water this week is not coincidental. On 15 May, the world marks 78 years of the Nakba, the Arabic word for ‘catastrophe’, which recalls the mass dispossession of Palestinians that began in 1948 when 15,000 Palestinians were massacred and more than 750,000 were ethnically cleansed from their homes. Some of those 1948 refugees were exiled to Gaza. Their status from their original home did not protect them, as they have remained besieged by the Zionist entity, more recently under a 19-year blockade. Ninety per cent of Gaza’s 1.9 million are displaced.
