Al Jazeera, 16 April 2026: Francesca Albanese, UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory, said torture in Israeli prisons has become institutionalised and the case of Marwan Barghouti was revealing of a system in “profound moral and legal decay”.
“I’ve investigated torture in Israeli prisons for quite a while now, and this is why I decided to write a report,” Albanese told Al Jazeera, adding that other investigations have found that “torture was becoming a state practice”.
